Wedding Day flow & Guide + tips

A complete guide on my wedding day workflow plus tips to make taking photos on your wedding day stress free!

Details

Personal & venue details are usually the first thing that I photograph when I arrive. Here is a list of just a few things that are included in personal detail photos. I will take these items from you so that I can find creative locations in and around your venue to photograph them.

  • Rings
  • Jewelry
  • Shoes
  • Bouquet
  • Perfume
  • Invitations
  • Tie
  • Cufflinks
  • Cigars

Tip!

Place the items that you would like to be photographed into a shoe box that I can carry around instead of scrambling for all of the items last minute! The bride and groom can have separate boxes.

Getting Ready

During the getting ready process, I will come in and start to photograph the final touches of hair & make up. After this, I usually try to get some fun shots of the bride & bridesmaids right before the bride slips into her dress.

After the bride is in her dress, I will take the groom & groomsmen’s getting ready photos.

Tip!

Keep the bride & groom’s suites clean and clear of clutter and trash as this makes the getting ready photos have less distractions.

First Looks

Right before the ceremony is when “first looks” will occur.

It helps to have a list of those who will be doing first looks so we can have them ready and in place. I will help coordinate this for the best outcomes!

Ceremony

At the beginning of the ceremony, I will be standing at the alter in order to photograph the procession. There will be a designated spot in the isle for the wedding party to stop and smile at the camera as they are walking down the isle. Once the wedding party is in place, I will relocate to the opposite side of the isle to photograph the rest of the ceremony.

Tip!

Have the DJ make an announcement asking guest to silent cell phones and put them away so they don’t cause distraction in the professional photos.

Wedding Party Photos

After the ceremony, I like to photograph the wedding party. This is sometimes switched around with family photos, depending on the timeline and the lighting.

Bride + Groom Portraits

My favorite part of the day! Walking off with just the married folks to take a few fun & intimate portraits, just moments after saying “I do”.

Family Photos

Having a list of family & friends who are to be included in formal photos helps this process go smooth and quick!

Grand Entrance

I will need to know which entry way the wedding party will be coming through to enter the reception so I can get set up at the best angle.

Dances

After the entrance is normally the wedding couple's first dance and dances with parents.

Speeches + Cake

This is the time that speeches, boquet tosses, cake cutting and other traditional moments usually occur. After this, wedding party & guest eat and I start my 30 minute break.

Dance Floor

Now it’s time to hit the dance floor! I’m in love with a good slow shutter effect to really capture the vibe of the party.

Final Moments + Exit

The end of the night is for exits and creative portraits.

I LOVE to get creative with my wedding couples once it’s dark out! Faux exits are sometimes encouraged if I haven’t been hired to stay until the end of the night.
